Add more pages to FTL website

Today I added an about page to the FTL website, and included a hyperlink table. Using CSS is still difficult sometimes, but I think I need to make sure that both the HTML setting, whether it is a paragraph or heading, plus the CSS rule are applied properly.

The page is starting to look good with the black background.

The text went way to far across the page, so I placed it inside a table that had been centered and given a width of 60% of the page. This kept it much smaller which was good.

On Tuesday I will add some information to the ships page.

Continue DreamWeaver website

Today the students used the skills they have learnt in the last week to add more information and pages to their website, including text, images, tables, hyperlinks and headings.

The students generally worked well. I was able to continue my flash animation for Year 9. I managed to figure out how to get the symbol to animate, and use a motion guide, however I think I am using the old way of doing this.

Will need to check it out next week.

GameMaker on Monday!

Introduction to GameMaker

Today the students finished Clickball version 1.0, using GameMaker. We stated Clickball on Friday and have used it to learn the basics of GameMaker, including:
  • Sprites
  • Objects
  • Rooms
  • Events
  • Actions
  • Controllers
We will now extend Clickball to include new functionality in version 2.0. This will make it more like an actual game with difficulty levels and new rooms.

Dreamweaver - Tables

Today we worked on inserting tables into a webpage. We also formatted the table by changing the following:
  • width
  • height
  • column/row width and height
  • image size
  • text formatting
  • background
Difficulties included trying to change the CSS of text inside the cells - I had to make sure that I had selected CLASS in the CSS Properties dialog box.

I am discovering that it is easier to delete all the CSS and start from scratch if there is an issue with formatting. It can be a bit of a pain, I feel that it works better by editing the HTML manually. Will have to try this with my Year 11 class.

Some of the students where able to and tables and images to there main page.

Tomorrow will be the skills text, and on friday the students must remember to bring their Netbook so we can start using GameMaker!

Friday 2 August 2013

Today I completed more work on my FTL website. However I had great difficulty getting the CSS styles to correctly change text as I wanted.

It was easier for me to delete all the content on the page so that all the code was cleared, and start from scratch. It appears that the CSS style will not change if you select over multiple tags. I will have to watch for this in the future.

Dreamweaver backgrounds

Today we went through how to include a background, either a colour or an image on a webpage.

The students now have the skills to create a basic homepage for their website assignment. Each student needs to pick a game or movie to build their site around. We will add to this page over the course of the semester.

I have chosen to create a site about FTL as and example for the students.
